Fighting the Laptop

July 28, 2006

I fought my laptop all day. It seems this morning, after restarting my laptop, it felt like giving me the ol’ blue screen of death. Way to go Windows! I fought with it all day trying to boot linux so I could back up some of my work(Webisense especially). I finally booted Knoppix and backed up my stuff. Then I got a re-image. Remember to back your stuff up daily! I didnt get to write about the 311/Wailers/Pepper concert last night so here is what I think:

A Utah Concert Dissected

Concerts in Utah are a lot different than concerts back home in Jersey and Philly. There are tons of differences which I will go over now.

Tailgating. There is no tailgating at the typical Utah concert. No tables of hot dogs, hamburgers, or brats. No grills fired up with the sweet smell of deliciousness. Most importantly, no coolers full of beer. Everyone pretty much gets out of their car and walks in to the venue.

Vandalism. I went into the bathroom inbetween two parts of the concert and saw some writing on a stall wall saying something to the effect of “Peace is Prosperity” with a big peace symbol under it. Stupid hippies. This was good and fine. The part that I found funny was that it was written in crayon. Those hippies are hardcore. Back home in Jersey, if something is written on a bathroom wall at a concert, it’ll either be written in permanent marker, or carved into the wall.

Fights. Back home, barely anyone at the concert would pay attention to a fight unless their friends are in it. Fights happen very often too. And then the cops kick you out. There was one fight at the concert last night, during which 99.9% of the people in the crowd stopped looking at the stage and turned fully around to watch a fight in the lawn area. Is it that big of a commotion for two people to fight? Apparently, it is here. And the people that got kicked out were also probably arrested.

Drugs. Normally, back home, a concert that would indicate a huge following of stoners would also mean clouds of pot smoke in the air. This also didn’t happen last night.

All in all, the concert last night was good. The Wailers kicked ass. 311 was good too. It just didn’t seem like a concert. Comparing a Utah concert to a Jersey concert is like comparing the Brady Bunch to the Manson Family.
