IBM Technical Professions

August 8, 2006

Phil Stauskas, WW IT Specialist Profession Executive and Sheila Thorne, WW IT Specialist Profession Leader from IBM visited Neumont University today for a guest presentation. Mr. Stauskas gave the presentation about being a technical specialist in IBM. Among other things, he said getting certifications are a very good way to show your understanding of a certain field. He went on to explain how people that work for IBM are constantly getting certifications.

Mr. Stauskas also said he is currently working hard with the IEEE to get decentralized certifications supported. What does this mean? It means you would no longer get a certification for a certain company. The company issuing the certification would be a 3rd party. That would be pretty cool because it would make you desirable for more companies.

Stauskas stressed that to make it easier to rise in a corporation, one must be willing to be positive, headstrong, self lead, and a desire to learn. All in all, it was a good presentation which i took a few tidbits of good information from. It made me realize I have to go get my DB2 certification soon. That is all.
