Happy Thanksgiving

November 27, 2006

I went home for Thanksgiving, which was a suprise to my my family.  Only my parents knew I would be coming home.  It was good to be home and see family and friends.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Thanks everybody.  It is now Monday morning at 10:30.  Back to the daily grind I go.  I come back from break and our apartment looks like they filmed Speed 3 inside.  Sigh.

I have been looking high and low for a Nintendo Wii and can not find one.  I went as far as to going out at 5AM on black friday.  Target did not get any.  How could as large a store as Target not get any in stock for the biggest shopping day of the year?  I continue my search.  I have a good feeling I will have one by the end of the week.

The weather forecast is saying it is supposed to snow heavily for the next 7 hours.  They say its a 90% chance of rain/snow/mix.  Right now, it is none of those.  Good game weather forecasters.

Opening Day

seasonpass

Today was opening day for Snowbird.  I went and got my season pass and snowboarded for a few hours.  Only 3 lifts were open, but it was still more than what I am used to in the northeast.  I was the first person of the season to stop by the medical office there.  My board was up against my car when it started to fall.  I tried to catch it with the top of my hand and the board took a chunk of my skin.  So I got a bandaid and went boarding.  The runs that were open were nice.  It was relatively warm out.  Good day of snowboarding.

This morning my engine light came on in my car.  After calling Dad, he suggested disconnecting my battery and seeing if it comes back on.  Fortunately, this worked.  I will have to see if it turns back on in the next few days.  Hopefully it wont.  It’s time for some food and relaxation.  Later…

Wiiiiii

November 16, 2006

I have been recently researching Nintendo’s new gaming console that comes out on sunday, the Wii.  It looks really cool.  I have been thinking about picking one up.  I am not one to normally game and haven’t since the N64 and Dreamcast, but the Wii looks really cool.  It uses detection in its controller that detects x, y, and z axis.  If you are playing a game with a sword or a golf club, you would swing the controller like a sword or a golf club.  Pretty cool idea.

This weekend Snowbird will be opening.  I am very excited.  I will be going up at 6 or 7AM on saturday morning.  I have to stand in line for about an hour or two to get my liftpass, but it will be worth it.  I hope PJ orders his season pass soon.  Although I doubt he will.  Who knows.  All I know is Saturday will be glorious.

Quality Control

November 12, 2006

Yesterday I bought the Linksys WRT54G wireless router.  I flashed it with DD-WRT, a free linux firmware upgrade.  Within the next few hours afterward, connections were dropped a few times.  My roommates haggled with me to fix it.  After awhile I didn’t feel like fighting with the router, so I went back to the original firmware.  And I cursed off open source and linux.

This morning, I wake up and within an hours time on the computer, my internet connection is dropped 3 times.  From this, I inferred that the problem was the linux firmware, but the actual router’s hardware.  So I drove to BestBuy and exchange my router for another one.  Lets hope this one doesn’t crash.  I have always said quality control of Linksys routers would go down after being bought out by Cisco.  This is my proof.

New Hardware

November 11, 2006

This morning I was woken up by my phone, but I did not set the alarm. It was a lady from forex.com. Yesterday, I was searching for sites that had simulation stock market that I could play. Like an idiot, I signed up for this site. Like an even bigger idiot, I put my phone number in for one of the information fields seeing as it was required. So the lady calls this morning and says she saw I did not make any trades. How intrusive can a stock trading company get? What a major no-no of a company. I went to the site to find a place to delete my account, but could not find one. I had to join a chat with someone that works at the company and ask her to delete it. Three lessons learned: Do not submit your phone number to any site unless it involves a purchase. If you run a company, do not be intrusive to your customers. and If you run a company, DO NOT CALL PEOPLE AT 10:30 AM ON A SATURDAY MORNING.

On to the good news. I just went and bought a new Linksys wireless router this afternoon seeing as how a roommate will be moving out. I flashed the router with DD-WRT. I found a link on DD-WRT’s wiki that led to scorpiontek.org. This was one of the better tutorials I’ve read lately. It had pictures that made everything run smoothly. Now my 50 dollar router is a 500 dollar router and ive even noticed out internet going waaaaaayy faster! Well im off, theres kilobytes to be stoled…

Jagshemash!

November 7, 2006

I went and saw Borat this weekend.  It was the funniest ive ever seen two naked men.  Sacha Baron Cohen plays Borat so well.  He is never out of character.  Sure the movie was inappropriate at times, but all of those times made me laugh.  I actually saw and older couple walk out of the movie after about 5 minutes in.  How could you get offended by a movie?  It’s only a movie.  One reason we have movies is to escape reality for a little while.

So Im just chuggin along.  Lots of classes, but Im in the dialy grind now for the quarter.  Same thing day in and day out.  I guess the consistency is reassuring.  I think I am almost ready for my next certification test.  I think I will take it in a week from now.  Wish me luck!  We have a career fair on thursday.  I dunno how that is going to work seeing as how I have class from 4 to 8 during the career fair.  Hopefully, class will be dismissed.  Back to paying attention I go…
