Excellent

April 12, 2007

Ive got quite an awesome schedule ahead of me.  I have social psychology and world cultures from 8 to 10 on mondays, wednesdays and fridays.  I then have enterprise projects from 10 to 2 on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays and from 8 to 12 on tuesdays and thursdays.   Our project for enterprise projects is for Fidelity and is pretty cool.  Seeing as how its thursday today, I may try to go up to the mountain to snowboard for a few hours.  Im glad I worked so hard in past quarters.  Now my last quarter will be excellent.

Hey You!

January 22, 2007

I have been quite busy lately.  As you can see, I redid the design of my site.  It needed a little sprucing up.  I still need to update my resume and portfolio pages.  I would also like to change some of the fonts I use and the styling of my blog.  I have a big paper I am currently working on due in a few days.  I also have to take my final certification test soon.  Busy bee is the life for me.  Maybe that’s why I’m always tired…

Back in Class

January 11, 2007

I am back in class.  It’s our second day back and it started to snow a few hours ago.  I cant wait to go snowboarding this weekend.  We have a 3 day weekend!  I think when I get home tonight, I am going to set up my webcam on my desktop and stream live images from out of my bedroom window and onto my site.  This way everyone can see the weather here.

Wot’s…Uh The Deal

December 5, 2006

Last night I made my first batch of Rice Krispy Treats.  They are excellent.  Loans for college are such a pain.  There is always something to be filled out, or something wrong.  Classes are wrapping up and I cant wait to go home for Christmas Break.  I am very excited.  We had an error in projects today.  It took us two hours to figure out the problem which was the difference between “neucms” and “neudbms.”  That two character difference can make a whole class-wide project crash.  Lovely…

Wiiiiii

November 16, 2006

I have been recently researching Nintendo’s new gaming console that comes out on sunday, the Wii.  It looks really cool.  I have been thinking about picking one up.  I am not one to normally game and haven’t since the N64 and Dreamcast, but the Wii looks really cool.  It uses detection in its controller that detects x, y, and z axis.  If you are playing a game with a sword or a golf club, you would swing the controller like a sword or a golf club.  Pretty cool idea.

This weekend Snowbird will be opening.  I am very excited.  I will be going up at 6 or 7AM on saturday morning.  I have to stand in line for about an hour or two to get my liftpass, but it will be worth it.  I hope PJ orders his season pass soon.  Although I doubt he will.  Who knows.  All I know is Saturday will be glorious.

Quality Control

November 12, 2006

Yesterday I bought the Linksys WRT54G wireless router.  I flashed it with DD-WRT, a free linux firmware upgrade.  Within the next few hours afterward, connections were dropped a few times.  My roommates haggled with me to fix it.  After awhile I didn’t feel like fighting with the router, so I went back to the original firmware.  And I cursed off open source and linux.

This morning, I wake up and within an hours time on the computer, my internet connection is dropped 3 times.  From this, I inferred that the problem was the linux firmware, but the actual router’s hardware.  So I drove to BestBuy and exchange my router for another one.  Lets hope this one doesn’t crash.  I have always said quality control of Linksys routers would go down after being bought out by Cisco.  This is my proof.

New Hardware

November 11, 2006

This morning I was woken up by my phone, but I did not set the alarm. It was a lady from forex.com. Yesterday, I was searching for sites that had simulation stock market that I could play. Like an idiot, I signed up for this site. Like an even bigger idiot, I put my phone number in for one of the information fields seeing as it was required. So the lady calls this morning and says she saw I did not make any trades. How intrusive can a stock trading company get? What a major no-no of a company. I went to the site to find a place to delete my account, but could not find one. I had to join a chat with someone that works at the company and ask her to delete it. Three lessons learned: Do not submit your phone number to any site unless it involves a purchase. If you run a company, do not be intrusive to your customers. and If you run a company, DO NOT CALL PEOPLE AT 10:30 AM ON A SATURDAY MORNING.

On to the good news. I just went and bought a new Linksys wireless router this afternoon seeing as how a roommate will be moving out. I flashed the router with DD-WRT. I found a link on DD-WRT’s wiki that led to scorpiontek.org. This was one of the better tutorials I’ve read lately. It had pictures that made everything run smoothly. Now my 50 dollar router is a 500 dollar router and ive even noticed out internet going waaaaaayy faster! Well im off, theres kilobytes to be stoled…

ROBOTS!!!!

September 18, 2006

I was talking to Brian earlier, and he linked me to a phpBB he hosted a while back. He hosted it so we could test security on a PHP Bulletin Board. He linked me to a part of the panel that shows users. We were alarmed to see there were 47 or so members. When we set up the board, there were only two of us as members. What were those 45 or so members? ROBOTS!!! Yes, some computer that is a digital robot found its way to Brian’s forum that he hosted. The link of which no one has ever known besides him or I. This means there are bots that scour the internet for forums, then register for those forums, or either one of us had a virus. And neither of us have had a virus. So these webcrawlers register to your forum. One could only imagine what they do from there. My assumption is these bots are ran by companys so they could gather information about the general public. These robots will be able to find out a persons hobbies. Have a person on a bulletin board post their address for some reason. Then have him post his name at some given time. My bet is that he’d get some junkmail about whatever the forum was about, whether it be an automotive or guitar forum, for example. This is only my guess. What do you think the robots are up to?

Lolf

August 29, 2006

We had lolf (golf) this morning. My swing is getting really nice. In other news Warren Jeffs was captured. He is on the FBI’s top ten most wanted list and is from right here in Utah. Also, evidence proves that John Karr did not kill Jon Benet Ramsey. Why would someone want to take credit for a killing they didn’t do?

For some reason my desktop just felt like stopping its ability to play music yesterday. This happened for no apparent reason. Thanks Microsoft. I tried to go back to a recovery point and that didn’t work. And I don’t have a virus. The odd part is the computer will play Windows sounds just fine. When i double click on something or turn the machine on, i have audio just fine. Its when i try to play audio on anything besides windows sounds that it says im missing an audio stream. I really dont feel like fighting with Windows anymore. Ive been battling Windows for years and im sick of it. Im contemplating dual-booting Windows XP and Mac or Linux. Maybe I’ll triple boot all 3. I wonder if Mac OSX will run on my machine. Hmm.

Pluto No Longer a Planet? Writely? Web 2.0!

August 24, 2006

A story over at zdnet is saying that a current meeting of astronomers around the world decided that Pluto is not to be a considered a planet anymore. It is now to be considered a dwarf planet. I mean, at first we were taught that Pluto was the last planet. Then it became the second to last which really screwed with my head. Now the astonomers of the world are saying that Pluto is no longer to be considered a planet. STOP MESSING WITH MY HEAD SCIENTISTS! I hope schools keep teaching from 20 year old books so kids keep believing that Pluto is the last planet. Some day my great grandchild is going to correct me when I mention Pluto, or even worse, they wont have any idea what Pluto is. Oh well.

I tested Google’s beta online word processor writely, last night. It seems like a solid application. For those of you that dont know, Web 2.0 is coming out. This includes new better looking websites with cleaner graphics and smoother operation. You will see applications no longer have to be installed. Instead you navigate your web browser to a webpage. There are current applications to replace many of the programs in Microsoft Office. I also saw a Microsoft Visio replacement that looks pretty promising.

Anyway, Web 2.0! I can’t wait for it to come out. I gotta call comcast to see what I need to do to upgrade to Web 2.0.
